Challenge #15: TRY

Man, I hated green peppers.

For 32 years, I would avoid them, pick them out of my pizza, treat them like poison. But then one day, on a whim, I decided to rediscover why I hated them so much. I was happy to find that they weren’t as bad as I originally thought! I became a little Seussical proclaiming out loud, “I do! I do like green peppers, Sam-I-Am!”

And while I still haven’t eaten them in a box or with a fox, I feel as though something has been conquered, a corner turned, a slight increase in health and even a positive nudge in my overall maturity.

If you really had only 15 days left to live, would you hold back from sampling life? Perhaps you would break through the prejudices, the dislikes that you have already laid down. Or maybe you would pick up something that you never dreamed of trying before and give it a shot.

Challenge #15: Try something. Try something new, or try something again for the first time. A new food. A new experience. Ever had caviar? Sardines? Ever tried bungee-jumping? Sat in a Maserati? Learn to play violin? Try something you already dislike. I’m probably going to either try green olives again (hope I don’t throw up) or ride a rollercoaster. Maybe horseback riding. What will you try?

Experience life! Re-experience life!

Friday's Challenge #16: FINISH

NOTE: We are half way there! Getting tired? Would you like a rest? A SABBATH is approaching...

  2. I am hoping my Facebook friends help me out with this one. Having a hard time coming up with something on my own, mostly because if I think about it and have time... I just do it. Some of the greatest thing (like traveling alone to europe for 10 days) I've done have been because I'm willing to try it. And I have made great friends and not so great one, learned things about myself that I never would have know otherwise, and just had a good time laughing at myself. I think I might try to find a book called "365 days of new" that gives you new things to do each day... and if it doesnt exist maybe I can write it. that could be fun. I'll keep you guys posted!

  8. I'm struggling a bit for new things to try. In someways I feel like Solomon, "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, 'Look! This is something new?' It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time." I'll have to give this one some more thought when I'm not so tired.

  10. Just for the record... Spam isn't bad. I do not want it again any time soo, but not bad. I also tried tofu shirataki noodles. They are vegan, and while they smell horrible they didn't really taste like anything other than the sauce that were in. Bit a bit chewy

  14. I tried a new thing this evening. I know it is not new to all the parents of teens on this list, but it was new and scary to me. I rode in the passenger seat while Lauren drove on the "real" road. This was the first time out of the parking lot. Boy, my heart was racing and my hands were shaking. It was scary, but I'm glad I did it.

  18. So, my whole life I have held a serious grudge against shrimp because of their texture and the fact that I feel like I'm biting it right out of the ocean, BUT... on Friday night I ate at TGI Fridays and I had sizzling shrimp and chicken with my mom, and it was good. Still pretty seemingly raw, but good...

  22. When I was a kid it seems like we eat lima beans for dinner every night. I hated them. They made me gag. We had to sit at the table until we eat everything on our plate. I swore I would never eat lima beans again and I would never make my kids eat them. I tried them yesterday when we went to eat at the West Cobb Dinner. I only eat a few and they weren't bad the way they cooked them, however, they old taste memories came back.

  24. As most of you probably already know, I went to New York for a week recently. It was LOADS of fun and I am extremely glad that I had the opportunity to go. I went with Faulkner University and it was a BLAST. I got to know some people and become friends with them. I don't know if this counts or not, but my answer is that I looked into a college that I have NEVER EVER EVER thought I would want to go to before...even the first day or two that I was on this trip, I was like, "There is no way on Earth I will ever go to Faulkner." But now, I'm actually leaning towards going there and finding out a lot of information about it and I am actually liking the idea of going there more than going to Lipscomb....SHOCKER! So that is my answer. I don't know if it counts or not, but yeah.
